Targetcraft Archers vs Towcester Archers Inter-Club Challenge

On Friday 19th January a team of nine members travelled up to Rothwell near Desborough, to take part in the first inter-club with Targetcraft Archers.

Targetcraft have invited a number of clubs within the county to a series of friendly inter-club shoots over the winter, and we were the first. The other clubs being Wellingborough Open Archery Club, Archers of Raunds and Long Buckby Archery Club.

The round was a Portsmouth, which is 60 arrows shot in ends of 3 on a 60cm target face with 10 zone scoring, the maximum possible scoring being 600 points.

It was a great evening with some great scores achieved by members of both clubs, including several new personal bests for Towcester Archers. The overall results were extremely close, with Targetcraft taking the win by just 6 points, 4600 to 4594!

Many thanks to Targetcraft for inviting us along and putting on an enjoyable evening. We look forward to hosting the return match next winter!

Our New Home Towcestrians Sports Club

Over the Easter bank holiday weekend, we held our very first club sessions at Towcestrians Sports Club.

Being based at Tows has been quite a long time in the making. When Towcester Archers were first formed, Towcestrians was naturally the first place we contacted when looking for potential locations. In October 2019, a meeting with Tows identified an area of their new development that could potentially be an ideal permanent location for the archery club once the ground works were complete, which at that time was due to be early summer 2020. Covid then hit, just as we were getting plans in place to start the club. Once restrictions started to lift we were able to get the club started in August 2020, finding a temporary location at Dadford Road Campsite near Silverstone. We ended up having the next two summer seasons there while keeping an eye on the progress of the groundworks at Tows.

With the development of the new cricket pitch area due to be finished this year, Tows agreed that we could start our summer season using the Rugby pitches until the flood plain area at the far end of the development is ready for us. Once we do move down into the flood plain, our members will have access to the range 7 days a week all year round, which we’re extremely excited about!

We have already started running beginners courses and have several planned throughout the summer. More information about our beginners course can be found here. Or if you would like more information about Towcester Archers, please get in touch via our Contact page.
