On Sunday 5th March we held our very first indoor competition, having invited Banbury Cross Archers to Towcester Centre for Leisure, for another Inter-club competition.
The round on the day was a Portsmouth round, which consists of 5 dozen arrows, shot at 20 yards at a 60cm face face.
As a club we did ourselves proud once again with another great club effort, with everyone mucking in to help and some great score, including several personal bests and for some members this was their very first taste of competition.
The Edgcote Trophy, which is named after the War of the Roses, Battle of Edgcote which took place geographically between Banbury and Towcester in 1469. Northamptonshire has the Rose as its emblem because of the counties role in the War of the Roses. Archers were heavily involved in the battle… ‘An initial attack by the rebel archers forced Pembroke to abandon a strong hilltop position and engage in hand to hand fighting on the valley floor.’ Thankfully, it didn’t come to that on this occasion.
Despite winning the senior recurve and compound categories, we very narrowly missed out on winning the Trophy by just 50 points!.
